Family is an integral part of personal development. Family provides love, support, and share core beliefs. Canada understands the importance of family and has designed a program that provides family reunification. Family reunification allows Canadian Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizens who wish to sponsor a family member.
Remember that as a sponsor you will be signing an undertaking declaration noting that you will be financially responsible for the applicant in case, they are unable to be self-sufficient. Keep in mind that even if you do not maintain the relationship with the sponsored individual (divorce, separation or argument), despite of who it is, you will continue to be financially responsible for them for the length of the undertaking. The length of the financial obligation depends on who is being sponsored, see below:
|Spouse, common-law, or conjugal partner||3 years|
|Dependent Child under 22 years of age||10 years, or until age 25, whichever comes first|
|Parent or grandparent||20 years|
