Start-up Visa

This program is for entrepreneurs with skills and potential to create businesses in Canada that are innovative, create jobs, and compete globally.

The applicant must get the support of one of the designated organizations, have a qualifying business, meet the language requirements and bring enough money to settle.

Qualifying Business

The business must meet the following conditions:

  • at the time you get a commitment from a designated organization, each applicant should hold 10% or more of the voting rights of the corporation (up to 5 people can apply as owners)

AND

  • applicants and the designated organization jointly should hold more than 50% of the total voting rights.
  • at the time the applicant receives the permanent residence:
  • must provide active and management of the business from within Canada
  • an essential part of the operations of the business must happen in Canada
  • the company is to be incorporated in Canada
  • hold a letter of support from a designated organization

As mentioned before, the applicant must obtain a letter of support from a designated organization, a business group approved to invest in or support possible start-ups.

Language requirements

Also, the applicant must be able to communicate and work in English, French or both languages. The applicant must take a language test from an approved agency and meet the minimum level of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in either English or French.

You must also prove that you have sufficient funds to settle in Canada for you and your family.
